Moral High Ground? What Most People Get Wrong About Being Spiritual

Have you jumped on the spiritual-lifestyle train already?

Do you consider yourself to be spiritual? Are you a beginner or a pro or do you even belong to the illustrious circle of light-workers?

This is not something you become easily, it is hard work:

Meditation, yoga, sun gazing, and daily affirmations just to name a few.

Spiritual is the new busy.

Spiritual means better.

And here the ultimate pro tip:

If you are spiritual and busy at the same time you absolutely nailed it.

Spirituality has become something to be proud of and it puts you on a moral high ground. Welcome to the

New Age 2.0 — Spirituality Of Things

Do you remember the days when life made more sense?

What about the good old status symbols like houses, cars, and boats?

At least you didn’t have to pretend anything. You either had them or you didn’t. End of story.

But being spiritual?

It contradicts the entire idea. Yet this is what many people try to accomplish.

And yes, that’s what I did.

At some point, I forgot what this was all about. I got distracted by other people’s expectations and by making them my own.

The result?

I discovered the spiritual lifestyle paradox which is kind of funny once you can see it. We are trying to solve our problems with the same mindset that created it. And thanks to Albert Einstein we know that this is not going to work.

So stick with me here, because I learned a very important lesson that will initiate a true spiritual awakening.

The Spiritual Lifestyle Paradox

Like many of us, I tried to create a lifestyle out of apparently spiritual activities.

I thought I become more spiritual by the things I did, and the more I tried the less I succeeded (that’s that paradox thingy…)

I was looking for answers outside of me. I thought of certain activities being more spiritual than others. And I thought of OTHER PEOPLE being more or less spiritual than I am.

I was trying to let go of my mind, not realizing that it was running the show again.

The ego never disappoints in creating more problems than it’s actually solving.

We are conditioned to look for complicated solutions, mind-bending formulas, and concepts.

Here is what I found out for myself…

The truth presents itself always simple. This doesn’t mean unimportant or trivial. A simple truth can be very profound. Still waters run deep, and with depth comes clarity to those who are willing to see.

So in order to solve the paradox, I tried to answer the following question:

How can I not do what needs to be done?

I struggled quite some time with answering this question until I stumbled across the 7 Universal Principles.

Then it dawned on me:

I can never find spirituality. I cannot be more spiritual. I cannot even be less spiritual.

I can only embrace it.

What I mean by that gets clearer when we look at The First Universal Principle and at what spirituality actually means.

The Universal Principle Of Spirit

Spirituality comes from spirit. Being spiritual means nothing else than being aware of your spiritual origin. You are spirit.

I know what you’re thinking…

This does not sound very special.

But maybe this is one reason why people have troubles to accept it.

The Universal Principle of Spirit says that everything is spiritual.

There’s just one problem…

We are trying to become spiritual not realizing that we already are spiritual. We are spiritual because we are spirit. And we cannot become what we already are.

Unless we realize this, we will keep running in circles like a dog trying to catch its tail (not very inspiring if you ask me).

Now let’s have a look at the deeper meaning behind this statement.

10 Things What Being Spiritual Actually Means

1) Spirit comes first

“Every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe — a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.”

— Albert Einstein

Spirit is the origin and the very source of everything that is. It is the life-giving form and creative energy. Nothing can exist outside of it.

You are spirit too. This means that you are the creator of every aspect of your life, all the time, whether you are aware of it or not.

2) Spirit is matter. Matter is spirit.

In all my research I have never come across matter. To me the term matter implies a bundle of energy which is given form by an intelligent spirit.

— Max Planck

Spirit controls matter. Why? Because matter and spirit are varying degrees of one and the same thing. Matter is spirit at a lower frequency. And spirit with its high frequency has the power to create and transform matter.

The illusion of matter serves the spirit as a way to experience itself within its own creation. Everything is conscious.

3) You are divine

“You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold.”

— Eckhart Tolle

Every thought will return to its creator as a lived experience. It then reunites with its source and is energetically completed. You are a thought of the divine source energy and its wish to experience itself within its own creation. Therefore, it is your purpose to return to your divine origin.

You are an aspect of this source energy and in possession of the same creative powers. You create into existence what is inside of you. Your experiences are a reflection of your inner self and, therefore, of who you truly are.

Separation from the source is an illusion. You are serving the whole and the whole is serving you.

4) Your true self is spiritual

“Freedom is the disappearance of that which is searching for freedom.”

— Adyashanti

You are not the constructed self you show to others. You are not your personal story, your social status, or the different roles you play throughout the day. Self-improvement often refers to these false identities and their appearance in the world around you.

True self-improvement means self-discovery based on introspection.

By consciously experiencing your own creations you become self-aware. This is the only way spirit can grow and recognize itself for what it is: A creator of its own reality and manifestations — without exception.

As within, so without.

5) Your personality creates your personal reality

“Same thoughts always lead to the same choices, same choices lead to the same behavior and the same behaviors lead to same experiences and the same experiences produce the same emotions and these emotions drive the very same thoughts.”

— Dr. Joe Dispenza

You are the projector of your reality. And whatever you project on a consistent basis will manifest as your reality. Early in life, we get conditioned to act and react in certain ways and we call it our personality.

This conditioning is nothing but a subconscious programming that determines the majority of our lives but it is not who we are. We are programmed by our cultural, social, national, and personal environment and the experiences we make.

We identify with this conditioning, our story, and create our reality based on our belief systems. We not only fail to realize that we are not our story, we allow it to become self-limiting. We have the power to reprogram our way of thinking, our habits, and even our personality which creates your personal reality.

You cannot expect anything to change in your life if you run always the same program.

The spirit is the engine of your physical reality and the experiences you make.

6) You are not your body

“You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.”

— C.S. Lewis

You are an infinite being having a human experience.

See your body as a vehicle for the spirit to perceive and experience. This is quite hard to understand first and even harder to truly accept.

But it is important to not identify with your body. Think of your body as a tool like a car or your clothes. Your body has a very important function but it is not who you are.

You are not the car you sit in. You are not the clothes you use. You are not your body. It is your vehicle for having a human experience.

Recognizing and applying this understanding is what being spiritual really boils down to. Anything else is just another missed opportunity for true spiritual growth.

How do you feel when you sit in your car, wear your clothes, and change or wash them? Do you see them as who you are?

They are tools that help you to interact with your environment.

So change your perspective.

The body is a tool as well. . A vehicle for the spirit to experience itself in its own creations. Without your body, you could not perceive the created reality of yours. It will always serve you and reflect your inner status. It is your loyal servant that enables you to experience every creation of yours, be it positive or negative.

7) You are immortal

“I simply believe that some part of the human Self or Soul is not subject to the laws of space and time.”

— Carl Jung

Life and death as we perceive them are just two aspects of one and the same thing. They are the same!

Why is your soul longing for eternal youth and immortality? Why is it so hard to accept that people have to die and disappear into nothingness? Why is it so hard to accept that there are definite ends to something or someone?

Could it be that your soul is trying to tell you something? Could it be that there is more to life than our limited mind is able to understand? Could it be that we are the creators of the belief that we have to die, one of the biggest illusions ever?

How can we end if we are connected to the source? How could we cease to exist if everything is connected? Wouldn’t it mean that the universe would vanish as well?

If spirit rules matter than it also rules your body. It is made of matter, which is a projection of spirit. This means there really is no limit to how long you can stay in your body and use it as a vehicle for your experience. And leaving your body does not mean that you die.

8) Everyone else is spiritual too

“You and I are as much continuous with the physical universe as a wave is with the ocean.”

— Alan Watts

Everything is connected. Everything is spiritual. Everything is conscious and alive.

We also create as groups and we are connected to these creations. We are attached to the mass-consciousness of nations, religions, and other belief systems. Every belief that is sent out leaves an energetic footprint and will set the cause of a complementary experience for individuals and groups alike.

The more people believe in something to happen and amplify this thought with strong emotions such as fear or anger, the more real this reality will become. They are literally charging this event up and make it stronger.

Breaking free of the mass consciousness allows you to consciously create your own reality. The path towards self-discovery is the path itself, your path. Understand that inner peace comes from true self-expression, without being accountable to anyone but yourself.

9) Time, as we know it, is an illusion

Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the future. Time doesn’t exist in the present here and now.

— Marina Abramovic

We think of time as being linear. The reason why we are so attached to the past and future is that we identify with our mind. The mind cannot embrace the present moment. Only the absence of mind can make you experience the NOW.

The past and future are polar opposites and all opposites can be reconciled (as we know from the Universal Principle of Polarity). They are two aspects of one and the same thing, they are identical. Rhythm is then the compensation, the exchanging action between the two poles.

How can the past and the future be the same?

If anything, past and future are images in your head that reflect a state of being. These events are connected to you by a chain of actions. You can see your present situation as the future of the past or you can see it as the past from a future perspective.

If you focus on the past it will become your future. If you focus on the future it will become your past. The present moment is where both coexist.

Waves of infinite possibilities collapse into single events, a continuous flow of experiences. But experiences are never separated from each other, it is the mind that tries to recognize discrete shapes and forms.

Think of time and your creations as a standing wave. It is continuously flowing, or brought in and out of existence at the same time. This standing wave is the only way for spirit to interact with its own creations and to grow throughout self-awareness. Separation from this creation is the illusion that needs to be resolved.

What is the present moment?

It is BEING. I AM.

You don’t just live in the present moment, YOU ARE the present moment!

In this present moment lies the key to your spiritual self-awareness. It is a reflection of your inner self. It is a manifestation of spirit. Time is not linear, it is vertical. Think of it as a potential of possibilities that are either activated or not.

All your thoughts return to you as lived experiences, now, always, and forever. You cannot stop creating, you cannot stop being.

Spirit creates being. Spirit is being and being is spirit.

10) Your life purpose is pure self-expression

“Everyone has been made for some particular work and the desire for that work has been put in every heart.”

―Jalaluddin Rumi

Your life purpose is to become aware of being the creator of all occurrences in your life. Your purpose is to follow the calling of your soul, the deep intuitive sense of freedom, peace, and divine origin that seeks self-expression in your own unique way.

Everything is connected but every aspect is unique. There is not a single atom in the entire universe that is exactly the same.

You are a part of the symphony of the universe and your unique energy serves the expression of the whole. All the answers are in your heart center.

Your natural state is abundance and once you realize this you can learn how to create only pleasant experiences that are in alignment with the core of your being.

Your purpose is to have the most amazing life you can imagine.

The mystery of creating your reality

The Path to Life Mastery

Knowing that we are the creator of our reality brings us to the next question:

How can we influence our creations? How does it work exactly?

I often thought about the impact my thoughts have on creating my reality. And I found it to be quite tricky.

For one part, we are the creator of our reality, as mentioned above. And we often associate this creative power with our thinking.

On the other hand, we are not our thoughts and we should not identify with them. They are part of the ego and the mind. The voice in your head is not who you truly are. We, as spirit, are perceiving reality through our senses with our thoughts being a part of them.

These thoughts create emotions in our heart which creates a much stronger electromagnetic field than that of the brain. It is this spirit-heart interaction that manifests your reality.

That is the reason why thinking alone does not change anything if you don’t evoke a corresponding emotion in your heart which will amplify this energy.

This is the reason why we keep creating the same reality over and over again because we are thinking and feeling in always the same ways.

Your true spiritual potential is clouded by your mind and its limiting beliefs and energetic blocks.

If your spirit is the projector then the mind is a dimming filter that weakens your power. You then identify with what you perceive and see it as a given reality, and thus, set the cause for creating more of the same.

You observe what you create, and you create what you observe.

To overcome your limiting beliefs and negative emotions you need to become aware of them first. Only then can you transform them and retrieve your true spiritual power. Therefore, introspection is the path to spiritual growth.

How can you distinguish between thinking of the mind and that of the spiritual self?

The mind is limiting your full spiritual power. You can recognize it by your doubts, fears, and constant judgment and evaluation of everyone and everything. On top of that, you identify with this type of thinking.

We are constantly “re-minded” by the ego of our limitations. We then enhance this negative thinking with our emotions. Our conscious focus gets distracted from its true potential and creates the same negativity we want to avoid.

You are the conscious observer of your own limiting beliefs and fears. You then go into resonance with this energy which has to create a corresponding manifestation in your life.

Your true spiritual self is not talking to you in words or phrases, but in feelings and images. Inner peace, longing for wealth and abundance, your intuition and gut feeling is the way to recognize your true spiritual self.

Deep within you feel that there is more to life, that you deserve better, and that you are here to become your greatest version.

You are spiritual because everything is spiritual.

The premise is not to be more spiritual but to become the master of your own creations.
