About How To Have A Pleasant Day
“Be pleasant until ten o’clock in the morning and the rest of the day will take care of itself.” — Elbert Hubbard
What It Means For Me
In the words of Elbert Hubbard above you can find a great deal of wisdom if you allow yourself to dive in. With “being pleasant” he is essentially saying that you should do the most important things as early as possible. When you do the most pressing task at the beginning of the day you will release yourself from it and thus, enjoy the rest of the day.
But there is more to it than working on your To-Do-List. Ever heard of a morning ritual?
The Morning Ritual
Whether you are aware of it or not, you have a morning routine that is more or less the same every single day.
But here is the thing:
Your morning routine mainly determines how you are going to feel for the rest of the day. And with each of us having always this one day ahead of us, it determines how we live our lives. No matter where you are in your life at the moment, where you want to be in the future, or what it is that you think you need to be happy, it will always be just another day in the future.
Every day is a new start and whatever we do today has the potential to change the way we live tomorrow. If we manage to get a good start every single day, we become automatically happier.
So it is your responsibility to make sure to live the life that you want every single day. You can start right away to implement a morning routine that helps you to achieve your goals.
Consistency is key to success
Accomplishing your morning routine every single day will make you feel successful. Being successful every day will make you feel happy every day. You will literally radiate success and happiness which in turn will attract even more success and happiness.
Most successful people have a morning ritual that helps them to get ready for the day. And don’t say that you don’t have enough time to do so. If people such as presidents and CEO’s with very busy schedules have the time for their morning routine, than it should be possible for you to do the same.
But consider this:
A CEO is not able to do his morning ritual although he is very busy. He is capable of being a very busy CEO because he is doing his ritual every single day.
It actually makes you feel at ease with yourself and enables you to enter a state of inner peace. Out of this state of inner peace you can literally create anything you want. And even when everyone seems to be against, your morning routine gives you the security and consistency that you need to pass any storm.
Here are the 10 benefits of having your personal morning routine:
Depending on how you setup your morning ritual, you could have time
- to love yourself 100%, just the way you are
- to be grateful for what you have
- to set your goals for the day
- for yourself alone and do what you love before going to a job that you hate
- working on your dream, like building your online business
- to get in shape while doing some workouts
- think about the most pressing tasks
- think about solutions to your problems
- imagine the most beneficial outcome in every situation
- succeed in doing your morning ritual, thus, getting into a mindset of success
All of the above mentioned points are good reasons to have your own morning ritual.
But why not do the morning ritual in the evening?
I am glad that you asked, and here is what I found out for me:
The only time in a day that you can control is your morning. A lot of things can happen throughout the day that will prevent you from doing what you wanted to do in the evening:
- The kids have some urgent issues that you have to take care of
- Your friends invite you for barbecue
- Your colleagues head over to the bar to have a few beers
- Your boss wants you to secure that deal with the client today
- This day simply got you, and you have no more power to do anything except sitting on the couch and, ah what, you forgot to mow the lawn again…?
- Your partner is surprising you and you cannot deny him or her anything
I think you get my point. And here comes the worst:
You are not only unable to work on your vision in one or all of the four categories (mind/health/wealth/wisdom), you even feel frustrated to not being able to accomplish what you have been looking forward to all day. This IS frustrating!
Now here is the thing:
By doing all or some of it in the morning you will prevent getting frustrated over and over again. You cannot predict the evening but you CAN plan your morning. Get up 15 to 60 minutes earlier every day and do your routine. Some people have a morning routine of up to 3 hours. This of course depends on your job and life situation. But no matter what you are doing, you can start to wake up 15 minutes earlier and do what you would like the most:
After one week, get up another 15 minutes earlier. Most important: Try to stick to your routine every day: also on the weekends!
If you have problems to stick to a new routine you may want to learn how you can reprogram your subconscious mind that keeps you doing the things you don’t want. I am using self-hypnosis and the so called emotional freedom technique in order to transform limiting beliefs and bad habits.
If you are interested in the morning routines of some very successful people, you can get an idea here.
So simply do the most pleasant and personally important things until ten o’clock in the morning and your day will be just fine.
Who Said It
Elbert Hubbard (1856 – 1915) was an American writer, publisher, philosopher and artist.
One of his more famous works is A Message to Garcia which is an inspirational essay.
In it, he argues that the greatest hero is the man who simply does his job, completing the task no matter what the obstacles without needless questions or supervision. Within Hubbard’s lifetime, the Message was reprinted more than any book besides the Bible.
It can be an inspirational and motivational read for anyone looking for a more successful lifestyle.
